Ambassador’s Hamlet in Vivo d’Orcia

This house, for years was the ‘retreat’ of an American ambassador and his family loved to spend the summer in the shade of large chestnut trees that surround it.
The beautiful view of Mount Amiata that you can enjoy from the terrace on which is located the table for outdoor dining, take a wonderful time.
Recently restored, through a glass door leads directly into the large living room with two comfortable sofas on the sides of the chimney.
On one side the dining table, the other the kitchen counter covered with a slab of slate, allows you to prepare meals in the company to the rest of the family.
The two bedrooms with their respective bathrooms are on the lower level.
Through their respective windows it leads to the garden from which you can admire the view of the imposing castle of the Counts Cervini who are owners around the village.

“Vivo d’Orcia is not a place, it’s a way of life …”

The Castle of Vivo d’Orcia is located in the charming Val d’Orcia in southern Tuscany, 2 hours from Florence, 1 hour from Siena, near cultural jewels as Pienza, Montalcino and Montepulciano, to name just a few.

The hamlet Vivo D’Orcia lies at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level.

The particular combination of altitude and Mediterranean climate create an unusual combination of flora and fauna.

Many wild animals such as deer, wild boars and foxes, as well as the finest truffles are in the Monte Amiata their home.

Refuge of a pope: the estate with its imposing castle and the Romanesque church dates back to the eleventh century. The humble hermitage was transformed into a sophisticated agricultural center and well organized, when Cardinal Marcello Cervini, later Pope Marcellus II, bought the estate in 1534.

The property is still owned by the family.

The castle in January 2005 was published in “The World of Interiors”.
